Dr. Patricia Kupanoff, DVM DACVS (Small Animal)We are pleased to welcome Dr. Patricia Kupanoff, DVM DACVS (Small Animal) to the staff of University Veterinary Specialists.  Dr. Kupanoff is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.  She earned her board certification in 2007.

Dr. Kupanoff’s path to veterinary medicine began at Arizona State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree.  She went on to Oregon State University to compete her Veterinary Medicine degree.  Dr. Kupanoff graduated from Oregon State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.  After graduation she completed a one-year general rotating medicine and surgical internship at the VCA, West LA Animal Hospital in Los Angeles, California.  She then continued her studies with two years of specialty surgical internships and an additional three years surgical residency at Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania.  In 2004, Dr. Kupanoff joined First Regional Animal Hospital as a staff surgeon.  Dr. Kupanoff founded Kupanoff Surgical, PLLC in 2013.

What does it mean that Dr. Kupanoff is board certified? A board certified veterinary surgeon has advanced training in specialty surgery, utilizing tools, methods and procedures not available in most veterinary hospitals.  A small animal veterinary surgeon is a specialist in veterinary surgery whom, after graduation from veterinary school, has completed advanced training in order to become board certified.  This training in surgery consists of at least a 1-year internship and a 3-year residency program that meets the exacting standards set by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS).

Dr. Kupanoff has given presentations on surgery of the stifle (knee), epidurals for pain management, and osteochonritis dissecans.  During her free time, Dr. Kupanoff volunteers with multiple organizations including Best Friends Animal Society and the Arizona Humane Society and has made a guest appearance on National Geographic Channel’s show DogTown.

Dr. Kupanoff is available immediately for consultations and small animal surgeries.  She believes “maintaining direct communication with the pet owner and the primary care veterinarian at all times assures that the most advanced, comprehensive, and compassionate professional care is provided to all patients.”  To schedule a consultation or surgery appointment with Dr. Kupanoff, call 724-717-CARE (2273) or fill out our Request an Appointment form.
